The Minnesota Timberwolves are looking to hire Dave Joerger to become their next head coach and it’s starting to sound like he’ll be the guy to get the job. But while there are other names on the Wolves list, the connections some of them share may lead to the team hiring more than one name they’re considering for head coach.

According to ESPN1500’s Darren Wolfson, the Wolves may consider hiring Sam Mitchell as an assistant coach if Dave Joerger is hired.

It’s more than just an interesting move and it could end up being a brilliant decision for the Wolves if they decide to go that route. In theory, the team would shave two NBA head coaches on its bench which is exactly what a growing team like the Wolves needs.

Mitchell and Joerger together could form a powerful coaching tandem and could lead Minnesota out of this funk that they’ve been in for the last decade it seems. Nothing has been able to save the Wolves but they may be able to turn things around with what could end up being a brilliant pairing of Dave Joerger as head coach and Sam Mitchell as his top assistant.
