The San Antonio Spurs are currently locked in a battle with the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference Finals (The two are tied at two games a piece and game 5 from the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas is at 9:00 pm EST on Thursday night and is on TNT).

Even if the Spurs go on to defeat the Thunder and then the Miami Heat or Indiana Pacers (The Heat currently lead the Eastern Conference Finals 3-2), they will be looking for ways to improve. Of course, the Spurs usually make minor moves and build through the draft. They are usually not in on big name free agents, aside from Jason Kidd years ago.

However, one prominent NBA writer has already suggested the Spurs make a run at Minnesota Timberwolves’ power forward Kevin Love and Nate Duncan of Basketball Insiders wonders if the Spurs would make chase New York Knicks’ forward Carmelo Anthony.

"Re-signing Kawhi is a no-brainer. One thing that occurred to me: What if the Spurs tried for Carmelo? Not sure he’d be interested, but he’d be perfect for what they need offensively as a guy who can create offense on his own when needed, and he and Kawhi could help transition into the next Spurs era when they could potentially get more help via free agency in 2015 since Melo would still be young enough that free agents could think they would be good upon signing there even as the former big 3 fade into the sunset."

Anthony put up 27.4 points, 8.1 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.2 steals per game last season while Love averaged 26.1 points, 12.5 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game.
