The first event to kick off on Sunday was the BMX Park and the riders got a bit of shade from some clouds hanging over head. It has been an incredibly hot competition in Austin.

More from X Games

Drew Bezanson kicked off the final with his first of three runs and it a huge transfer early on into the deep end. Towards the end of the run he slipped up a bit on a transfer out off the deep end and then tried to exit the park and land on the rail but ultimately missed and the bike went over the side of the park and got a score of 80.

Daniel Dhers was second up in the Final and  you could tell that he picked up his pace in the first run hitting a flare as the buzzer sound and had some big tail whips in the middle of the round. It moved him into first with a solid 86.00 score.

Ryan Nyquist was third up and he seemed to lose some speed towards the end of his run but then hit a huge 540 in the deep end seconds before the buzzer sounded. He was scored a 85.33 moving him into second.

Daniel Sandoval was up next and hit  some impressive moves in the deep end before going to the top of the park and really impressing with a front flip into a flare and a front-flip flare. The crowd approved but he was given an 86.00 tying him with Dhers.

Gary Young came up with a solid 85 to make the race for the podium tight right off the back.

Austin native Chase Hawk was the final rider to go and immediately generated speed and hit some huge transfers. It was an impressive run and was rewarded with the highest score of the first run, an 89.00, putting him back atop the leader board, where he sat after Round One.

Bezanson was behind the pack with the lowest score in the first run of the finals. He opened with a  huge transfer into the deep end and was putting up a big run. He landed on the rail behind the Texas jump and while trying to get back into the park his back tire got caught on the top of the platform and he landed on his face. It still gave him a higher score than his first run with an 83.66.

Dhers came in sitting in second. This run didn’t seem to be that impressive and it looked like he was being a lot more calculated before hitting a tail whip transfer out of the deep end and finishing with a no-handed flare. The judges gave him an 83.00.

Nyquist’s second run was reminiscent of his first and his speed seemed to tail off towards the end. He did finish the run with a one-hand, one-foot in the deep end. The judges gave him a score of 80.33, the second lowest score of the final round.

Young was up next and started off with a lot of speed. Ultimately he didn’t improve his score and was given an 85.00 again.

Hawk started carrying the energy and big moves from his first run into his second and slightly improved his score with an 89.66. That had Hawk sitting in the lead heading into the final runs and by riding last Hawk would a chance to beat any score that knocks him out of first.

The single best score from any run can give you the gold, so it is was still wide open and anyone could win.

Bezanson came out determined in the third and final run that was incredibly impressive. He landed that move on the back rail behind the Texas jump and landed it getting back into the park. He was rewarded with an 88.00 moving him into second place, a huge jump up the standings.

Dhers was knocked into third after Bezanson’s final run. Dhers brought a lot of speed into the final run, arguably more than the rest of the runs but then just seemed to tail off. He went for a big flare transfer into the deep end in the final seconds but didn’t land it. He was given a 79.33 for his third run, the lowest in the final by any rider at that point.

Nyquist, Sandoval and Young weren’t able to unseat Hawk, who rode last. That allowed him to take his third run as a victory lap of sorts.
