Another day and another NFL player arrested on suspicion of drunk driving. This time it is Kansas City Chiefs corner back Sean Smith.

More from Kansas City Chiefs

The Chiefs released the following statement to the station as well: “We are aware of the situation involving Sean Smith. Whenever one of our players is involved in an incident like this it is disappointing. We will have no further comment at this time as this is an ongoing legal matter.”

It doesn’t look good either, from the report it wasn’t a simple “I smell alcohol on your breath” pull over.

From KCTV 5 News:

"Kansas City, MO, police say they were patrolling the area of 10th Street and Grand Boulevard about 12:30 a.m. Monday when they saw a driver try to turn left at 12th Street and Grand Boulevard and lose control. Their report said the driver lost control and struck a light post at the intersection."

The report paints the accident as pretty serious, saying there was major damage to the car and the car knocked the light pole over. According to the police report Smith seemed confused and was mumbling after the accident. Which makes sense, he was in an accident and DUI lawyers like to use those accidents and resulting confusion to their advantage to down play the alcohol part of these arrests.

Smith reportedly refused medical attention, was subsequently arrested and hit with three citations: operating a vehicle was a BAC of 0.08 or more, driving a vehicle in a careless manner by attempting to make a left turn at an intersection and failing to slow down causing the vehicle to run into a light pole, and no insurance.
