The Minnesota Timberwolves are looking at this offseason as one in which they need serious change to get better and they need that change immediately. A lot of talk is surrounding Kevin Love and his future with the team but there’s other areas the Wolves need to shore up to make sure they don’t turn in another lost season.

  • Flip Saunders recently named himself the head coach of the Timberwolves and as a result he’s looking to fill out his staff with guys that could succeed him in the next few years. Sam Mitchell was a name on the Wolves radar back when they were still looking for a head coach and he apparently never left their minds.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski from Yahoo! Sports, the Wolves have hired Mitchell to Saunders staff.

The idea here is likely to have Saunders make sure the wheels don’t fall off of the team in 2014-15 and then hand the reigns over to Mitchell in 2015-16 and then return to the front office once again.

Mitchell is a great assistant to have on staff and the Wolves are hoping he learns well under Saunders so that once he takes over as head coach things will being to go smoothly for once in the basketball boneyard known as Minneapolis.
