James’ Heat are on the verge of losing the NBA Finals to the San Antonio Spurs and his second banana, Dwyane Wade appears to be on his last legs. However, Larry Coon believes James will stick with Miami for at least one more season.
"Bosh has already said he wants to keep the band together, and isn’t contemplating leaving.Wade is obviously on the downside, and I think he’s the least likely of the three to opt-out and leave.Bron is obviously the most interesting player to contemplate. There’s no shortage of teams who would want him if he decides to leave. The question is whether he decides to leave or stay. I think he stays — at least for one more year — but you can construct a plausible scenario where he sees which way the Heat are headed (Wade getting older, Allen & Battier retiring, etc.) and decides that his best bet for continuing to win championships lies elsewhere. From there, it just depends on where he sets his priorities. But to be clear, I think the most plausible scenario is for the three to continue to be in Miami through next season."
Testing free agency in 2015 may be a good idea. If a team can clear enough cap room, he could have several other players to team up with. Minnesota Timberwolves’ power forward Kevin Love, Portland Trail Blazers’ power forward LaMarcus Aldridge and Memphis Grizzlies’ center Marc Gasol will all be unrestricted free agents and New York Knicks’ forward Carmelo Anthony could also be an unrestricted free agent if he opts in.
James averaged 27.1 points, 6.9 rebounds, 6.4 assists and 1.6 steals per game while shooting 56.7% from the field, 37.9% from three and 75.0% from the charity stripe this season.
