LeBron James and his agent have informed the Miami Heat that he will indeed be opting out of his current deal with the team, making him the most lucrative free agent this summer in the NBA. Just a few years removed from “The Decision,” we’re about to go through the entire process again.

More from LeBron James

Now, this in no way guarantees that he is leaving Miami, however it’s now a distinct possibility that he will. Many could see LeBron deciding to opt out of his contract as an ultimatum to the Heat to make some changes, which is what Yahoo’s Adrian Wojnarowski believes this is all about.

According to Wojnarowski, this action of opting out on Tuesday is a clear message to the team to improve the roster around him, which also means that they will have to reach into the wallet to make that happen.

James and the Heat are coming off one of the more disappointing NBA Finals showings by any team in quite some time. They were virtually dismantled by the San Antonio Spurs in five games, with all four losses not really even being all that close. It was a harsh reality brought upon James and the organization that things do need to change.

Now, the proverbial ball is in Miami’s court. Whether or not they want to make the changes necessary to keep the biggest star in the league remains to be seen now in the coming weeks.
