The Los Angeles Lakers have a history of luring elite free agents to Hollywood and they are hoping that continues this offseason with LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony the big prizes in free agency.

More from LeBron James

James opted out of his contract with the Miami Heat and is seeking a max contract while Anthony may turn down a max deal from the New York Knicks in order to sign a deal for much less money, but with a much larger chance of winning that elusive NBA  championship.

The rumors have circulated that the duo who entered the league in the same year and finished 1-2 in the Rookie of the Year voting would like to play together and that could be for the Lakers.

According to ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne, the Lakers placed a phone call in the moments after free agency began to Rich Paul, the agent for James.

Anthony has scheduled a visit to the City of Angeles for Thursday but no visit has been scheduled for the four-time MVP just yet. Although, it could be looming depending on what Pat Riley does in free agency as James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh have given the president of the Miami Heat a window to improve the roster via free agency before the trio commits to returning to the Heat.

The Los Angeles Clippers have also shown interest in James and Anthony, but don’t count out Kobe Bryant playing a vital role in the recruitment of the two dynamic All-Stars in what could be a very entertaining first few hours of free agency.
