The 6-5, 275-pound offensive tackle is the nation’s No. 204 player overall regardless of position, No. 21 offensive tackle and the No. 3 player in the state of Utah, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. James worked out at guard for this first time at The Opening and thinks he could play there in college if the coaches need help along the interior of the line.
James spoke about what stands out about UCLA earlier this week with 247Sports’ Justin Hopkins and his relationships with his primary recruiters were a big factors in his decision.
"“UCLA, they were the second school to offer me so I’ve been in contact for a long time. As far as relationships go, I probably have the best relationship with Coach (Taylor) Mazzone and Coach (Adrian) Klemm. A couple of my favorite coaches. I’ve been talking to them for a very long time.”"
UCLA closed strong for the talented lineman who was believed to be leaning toward rival USC days prior to his announcement. Ohio State, Oklahoma were the finalists for the four-star recruit in the composite rankings.
Oregon was in the running as James has been a fan of the Ducks since the second grade, but with Oregon loading up on offensive linemen in their class, James scratched them off his list.
With tonight’s commitment of James, UCLA now owns the nation’s No. 21 ranked class according to the 247Sports team rankings and the No. 3 class in the Pac-12, trailing only the Trojans and Ducks.
