Trendy new uniforms and alternate looks are all the rage in college football these days, especially in the Pac-12 where the Oregon Ducks have an endless supply of uniform combinations and now a fellow Pac-12 program could feature a new look next season.

The USC Trojans feature a classic uniform look that has worked well for them over the decades, but they could be ready to feature a new helmet next season.

According to Scott Wolf from Insidesocal.com, “The company that makes the Trojans’ facemasks published this photo of a USC helmet and a player told me the helmets would be ‘shiny’ next season.”

Wolf referred to this new look as a “Christmas bulb helmet” and is awfully bright considering their classic look.

Do you like the look of the helmet or are you of the mindset that the classic USC helmet should not be modified?

I’m all for traditional looks of USC, Penn State, Michigan and Alabama, among others, but coaches and athletic directors will tell you the matte helmets, chrome helmets and endless uniform combinations appeal to recruits. So if it can help USC on the recruiting trail and bring in some five-star talent to suit up for the Trojans, perhaps some fans can stomach wearing this helmet, even for one game.

First-year head coach Steve Sarkisian won’t be too preoccupied with what helmet his players wear this year as he hopes his return to the Trojans after coaching the Washington Huskies after leaving Pete Carroll’s staff will reinvigorate the program and get them back to the top of the Pac-12 standings and soon competing for the College Football Playoff.

Shiny helmet or not, I think USC fans would be fine with either if their Trojans are in the Final Four.
