Larger Apple iPhone 6 facing delay

Apple is looking to go straight at the competition with the release of the Apple iPhone 6.  With the next smartphone from Apple likely looking to be released in September (along with iOS 8), the company could be looking at pushing the release of the larger, 5.5 inch model back into 2015.

While right now there is no confirmed release dates for any of the Apple iPhone 6 models, KGI securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, has reported that the company is running into some struggles.  Thanks to the new metal casing and the new touchscreen technology on the iPhone 6, it appears that Apple may have in fact run into some struggles with the new phone.

The technological issues would reportedly affect both of the new phones (4.7 inch and 5.5 inch models) but would be more prevalent in the larger of the two offerings.

Kuo also discusses that the new sapphire glass cover on the new phones, that is supposedly scratch-resistant, may not “pass the drop test near term.”

With no confirmed release dates from Apple on either device yet, it is hard to speculate what these issues may due to the timetable for the iPhone 6.  However, Kuo suggests that these difficulties could push the iPhone 6 into quarter 4 of 2014 or even as late into early 2015.

Obviously until Apple confirms that the new iPhone 6 even exists, this all stands as speculation.  That being said, Apple typically releases the new iPhone in the September-October timeframe, and iOS 8 is set to debut in September.  With multiple signs pointing towards that as a release window, we can only hope the difficulties can be overcome.
