Buffalo Bills wide receiver Sammy Watkins was selected in the top ten of the 2014 NFL Draft because the team believes he can be an impact player from day one.

More from Buffalo Bills

Early on at Bills training camp — which is taking place at St. John Fisher College in Pittsford, New York — that has proven to be true.

Watkins was an early standout on the opening day of Bills training camp, and he hasn’t slowed down.

According to WGR 550 Buffalo‘s Joe Buscaglia, Watkins continues to impress the media in attendance and his coaching staff.

In fact, Watkins is apparently consistently burning another Bills first round pick in cornerback Stephon Gilmore.

Watkins “continued to dazzle … even burning top cornerback Stephon Gilmore quite easily on a few occasions,” Buscaglia said.

If Watkins can continue to play at a high level and avoid a rookie slump in the later part of the season, the Bills will be very excited about their future star wide receiver.

When you take a player early on in the draft, you want to see production as soon as possible and it would appear that Watkins is prepared to give Buffalo a very early return on their investment.
