The Buffalo Bills just keep getting bad news regarding their linebacker corps. The latest blow sees linebacker Nigel Bradham getting suspended one game for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy (per Adam Caplan).

Bradham was just a scrub linebacker last year, but with Kiko Alonso’s injury, he was in the mix to become a starter and indeed was getting reps with the first team to open training camp.
The 24-year-old Bradham has had substance-related issues in the past. In August of 2013, Bradham was charged with marijuana possession following a traffic stop, but those charges were eventually dropped.
The fourth-round pick out of Florida State has steadily climbed the Bills depth chart since 2012, and the injury to Alonso provided him with a great opportunity to take the next step, but this will represent a set back for him.
It’s unlikely that the Bills will outright cut Bradham but this suspension may convince them to give others a look at starting linebacker, for fear that Bradham may slip again and not be available long-term.
Once again, if you’re a young NFL player trying to prove yourself, smoking pot just doesn’t make sense. What’s wrong with picking up a nice bottle of vodka and getting loaded that way? No one ever got suspended for failing an alcohol test because there isn’t one.
Just don’t drink and drive and you’ll be fine. Johnny Manziel, he’s smart.
