In the midst of hurried reports, conflicting reports, sources, new sources, better sources, and all the other tidbits we get to consider around the time of the big league trade deadline, the Cleveland Indians offered a brief moment of simplicity for their game on Wednesday night.

Prior to the trade that sent Masterson to the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday, the 29-year-old right-handed starter had spent the majority of his career, and certainly his formative years as a big leaguer, with the Indians franchise. He spent the beginning of his career, 2008 and 2009, with the Red Sox before joining Cleveland.

While in Cleveland he clearly had an impact on his teammates that they are not quick to forget. These are the types of things, the day to day time spent between teammates, that can sometimes be forgotten by those of us on the outside looking in. To see the Indians take a break from the noise and offer this gesture is pretty awesome, even if it is just a small thing in the big picture.

As for the results on the field, they have been disappointing for Masterson this season. With a 4-6 record, 5.51 ERA, and a staggering 1.65 WHIP, Masterson will hope that a change of scenery turns things around as he tries to help the Cardinals reach the playoffs.
