Colts’ Andrew Luck to have ‘plenty of opportunities to throw the ball’ this season

In a Q&A mailbag post with fans, ESPN’s Mike Wells made an interesting prediction or observation regarding Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck.

“Given the state of running back depth, how will offensive approach change this year, vs forced ‘power running game’ scheme last year?” a fan asked.
“The Colts will run the ball because they want to have as much of a balanced offense as possible, but I don’t think you’ll hear them talk about a power-running game as much as last season,” Wells answered on ESPN. “They simply want to put points on the scoreboard whichever way necessary. With that said, and the weapons they have on the outside, Luck will have plenty of opportunities to throw the ball.”
He certainly threw the ball more his rookie season versus his second season. As a rookie, Luck threw the ball 627 times compared to 570 the following season. His completion percentage did go up in the second season of his NFL career and he threw half as many interceptions. As Luck really begins to emerge and come into his own, why not let him throw more.
