The two-game suspension handed down from the NFL to Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice was loudly criticized for being too lenient after he knocked his fiancee (now his wife) unconscious inside an Atlantic City casino elevator in February.

Meanwhile, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell defended the suspension saying it was consistent with how the league handles these types of incidents, but no one else is defending the suspension and if you gave him truth serum, Rice would likely admit he got off easier than he should have.

Continuing the barrage from the media in the aftermath of the joke of a suspension was John Stewart who dedicated a segment to the Rice debacle where he didn’t mince words when he lit up the NFL and Rice.

Stewart began the segment by going back to Valentine’s Day and asking the audience and viewers what they got their loved ones for the holiday, and the rest was TV gold after that.

“So what did you get your significant other on Valentines Day?” Stewart began. “Can you remember back then? Might not have been much. Chances are it’s better than what Ray Rice got his fiancee. … You can imagine the NFL was none too happy.”

“So let’s get to the punishment … two games?” Stewart continued. “Unless one of the games is professional football what kind of message to you think this is sending?”

The message it is sending is that hitting a bong is twice as bad as striking your fiancee and rendering her unconscious. You can watch the full segment courtesy of Comedy Central below.
