Sam Fuld isn’t the biggest, strongest guy in the world, so he really has to wind up to throw people out from the outfield. Saturday, Fuld put everything he had into this throw to nail Alex Gordon at the plate. And when I say everything I mean everything. Fuld throws so hard, his body does a complete mid-air roll.

More from Kansas City Royals

Fuld indeed got Gordon at the plate, as replay confirmed. Even if the throw had been late, it would have still been an amazing effort. Just as a demonstration of physics, it’s an amazing effort. Never mind the fact that the play was also successful.

Plays like this are why Sam Fuld tends to find his way onto a contender every year. He was languishing away on the Twins this season until the A’s decided they needed an extra outfielder and dealt Tommy Milone to get him.

Fuld is the kind of guy you want when the postseason pressure is on. He’ll do anything to make the play, including turn himself into a human pinwheel.
