It’s already been reported that Shawn Marion is expected to sign with the Cleveland Cavaliers after the Kevin Love trade becomes official, but what about Ray Allen?

More from Cleveland Cavaliers

Even before the proposed Kevin Love deal it was thought that Ray Allen, who spent the last few seasons teaming up with LeBron James as a member of the Miami Heat would eventually sign with the Cleveland Cavaliers. However Ray Allen was quick to knock that idea, previously suggesting that he wasn’t sure what team he would sign with and hinted that retirement was very possible.

Of course, that was before the Cavaliers put themselves in position to trade for Love and according to ESPN’s Chris Broussard, Ray Allen was set to join the Cavaliers a few weeks ago assuming they were to pull off the Kevin Love deal.

Now there are two issues that arise here – one of which is that Broussard heard it a few weeks ago. That’s not to say it still wouldn’t ring true, but things can happen in a few weeks time as well. The other problem is who’s reporting it. Broussard has a pretty spotty track record to be kind, though in fairness he has improved recently (though that’s not exactly difficult given how woeful he previously was).

That all said, the report should be taken with a grain of salt though it seems as if the Cleveland Cavaliers have been the favorite to sign Ray Allen all along. The addition of Kevin Love and likely Shawn Marion only have to increase that likelihood.
