In about one hour from now, the Detroit Lions and Cleveland Browns will take the field for their Saturday night preseason match up in Detroit, however there will be one big name missing from the group on the field as the best wide receiver in the league, Detroit’s Calvin Johnson, will not be playing this evening.

This really should come as no surprise, as the Lions don’t want to risk the health of one of the biggest stars in the game, this early in the preseason. Johnson will more than likely see time in at least one of the preseason games this year, but tonight will not be one of them.

More from Cleveland Browns

Johnson will undoubtedly be a huge part of the team’s transition this year, as they look to rebound from what was a miserable 2013 campaign that ultimately led to the firing of Jim Schwartz, and the subsequent hiring of Jim Caldwell to take over.

Although the team suffered through that bad season last year, Johnson was still his dominant self, catching 84 balls for 1,492 yards and 12 touchdowns. Many believe that this could be the season that he breaks the 2,000-yard mark.

If it is, we won’t begin to see flashes of that on Saturday night.
