Prior to SEC Media Days last month, it was announced that Auburn QB Nick Marshall had been cited for marijuana possession. He was withheld from the media event, and then head coach Gus Malzahn announced that he would not be starting the opener in a few weeks against Arkansas.

Well for the first time since the incident, on Sunday, Marshall addressed the media about it, and he expressed his apologies for putting the team in the position that he did.

“I made a mistake and I’m just trying to gain my trust back from the coaches,” Marshall said. “I let my family down and I’m also trying to gain their trust back and also the Auburn fans.

“The incident that happened, it’s just going to change me as a better man on and off the field.”

He then stated that he has no doubt that he can gain the trust back from the coaching staff, especially Malzahn.

“(Malzahn) gave me a message that I made a mistake. I’m going to accept my punishment,” Marshall added. “I trust my coach, and I know I’m just trying to gain my trust back with him.”

Marshall took the world by storm last season when, after winning a camp battle with then freshman Jeremy Johnson for the starting quarterback slot, he led the Tigers to the SEC Championship and an appearance in the BCS National Championship Game, just one year after the program went 3-8.

Johnson will be starting in place of Marshall against Arkansas in the opener.
