Tom Hanks, Hanx Writer typewritter app a winner

It seems as though Tom Hanks is not only an award-winning actor, but apparently he can promote a simple typewriter as well.  His recently launched app, Hanx Writer, has not only seen success, but finds itself listed atop both the overall and productivity charts on the Apple iTunes App Store.

Hanx Writer just launched last week, and while simple in premise, the app apparently appeals to many.  Downloading Hanx Writer turns an iPad into a modern-day typewriter.  The app offers all the great sounds of a traditional typewriter, with the new age ability of deletion and correction without white out.

The Hanx Writer app is free to download, however there are a few other options for typewriters that can be purchased inside of the app.  Obviously, the application is far from necessary, but to say it performs remarkably would be selling Hanx Writer short.

Hanks recently interviewed with the Apple @AppStore twitter account and had this to say, “I wanted to have the sensation of an old manual typewriter – I wanted the sound of typing if nothing else…cause I find it’s like music that spurs along the creative urge. Bang bang clack-clack-clack puckapuckapuckapucka… I wanted the ‘report’ of each letter, each line.”

Currently, Hanx Writer is enjoying a 4.5 star rating on the App Store with over 1,000 reviews.  While the typewriter format isn’t always going to be efficient, it makes for a solid entrant into the note taking space and executes its goal wonderfully.
