Remember Harvey Updyke?  Auburn fans sure do. He was the guy that poisoned the beloved oak trees at Toomer’s Corner, just off the Auburn campus. He was a bitter Alabama fan upset at their loss to rival Auburn and Cam Newton in the 2010 Iron Bowl.

More from College Football

The trees were removed on April 23, 2013 due to the poisoning.

On January 27,2011, Updyke called into Paul Finebaum’s sports talk show claiming to be “Al” from Dadeville. Al claimed that he had poisoned the beloved trees with Spike 80DF for several reasons, one being the Iron Bowl loss.  A soil sample proved that someone had poisoned the trees, and the police traced the call back to Updyke.

He was arrested on February 17,2011. On March 22, 2013, he received a three year split sentence, and was forced to pay nearly $800,000 to Auburn university for damages. He is also banned from the Auburn campus, or from any college sporting event for the rest of his life.

Now Updyke wants to use his infamy for a good cause. Alabama fan T.J. Hodges is organizing an even to be held in Mobile, Alabama on September 29th to help raise money for the family of John Oliver. Oliver, a boy from outside Mobile, died of cancer in July.

Hodges started a non-profit organization to help family members visit terminally ill patients before they pass. The particulars of the event have not all been hashed out yet, but Hodges enrolled the help of A.J. McCarron and his mother to help organize the event.

When Hodges called Updyke about the event, he said they could do whatever they wanted to him if it could raise money for kids.

So Updyke will sit in a dunk tank where fans can get a chance to soak him. They will also have a chance to throw pies at his face.
