Of course, that’s a bit of a problem considering there aren’t many available. Still, given the Cleveland Cavaliers desire to reinforce their interior defense, Emeka Okafor’s name has been brought up as a potential target. However, according to Sam Amico of Fox Sports the veteran is not on the Cavs target currently.
Responding to a fan question during his weekly chat, Amico hinted the Cavaliers signing Emeka Okafor doesn’t make much sense.
"No. Why? Injury prone, over the hill, non-factor."
The biggest problem surrounding Emeka Okafor currently is his health. Multiple teams have expressed interest in signing the center though he is reportedly still dealing with neck issues and it’s possible he may not be ready to play for another month or two. Some reports have suggested he may wait until mid-season to sign in effort to get fully healthy.
If such is the case, he’s obviously no use to the Cleveland Cavaliers currently.
Despite that, it’s still expected that the Cavs will continue to dig through the free agent ruble and see if they can find somebody to spell Brendan Haywood for a stint or two every night. So far finding such has proven to be rather difficult but with training camp nearing, a move will need to be made shortly.
