The San Fransisco 49ers have had two straight demoralizing weeks after blowing leads late in the game and taking the loss. Last week it was the Chicago Bears that climbed back after being down 20-7, now it’s the Arizona Cardinals that came back and took care of the 49ers 23-14.

Anquan Boldin blames the officiating for the Niners late struggles according to the Sacramento Bee. Boldin said it seemed as if the 49ers have been fighting to win against the opponent and the officials. After being hit with 16 penalties against the Bears, the 49ers were penalized nine times for 107 yards against Arizona. Six penalties came in the second half. The Cardinals were flagged five times for 36 yards.

One of the costliest penalties on Sunday was a head butt delivered by Boldin to Cardinals cornerback Tony Jefferson late in the third quarter that took the Niners from first-and-goal on the six to first-and-10 on the 21-yard line. The field goal attempt was then blocked.

“For me, it’s been obvious the last two weeks: The amount of calls that have gone against us and the amount of calls that we’ve gotten hasn’t been close,” Boldin said. “Every week, it’s the same thing – send the tape in, the NFL just reports back, ‘We made a mistake.’ But at the same time, the crap cost us another game. At some point, they need to be held accountable.”

The 49ers have been outscored 52-3 in the second half so far this season and find themselves two games behind the 3-0 Arizona Cardinals. They began 1-2 last season as well, but then found their way into the playoffs. The 3-0 Philadelphia Eagles will travel to San Fransisco next Sunday.
