Adrian Peterson is facing child abuse charges in Texas and that’s taking him very far away from football these days. But while Peterson is reportedly in denial about his situation with the law and with the Minnesota Vikings, the team dealing with his issues knows very much what they expect out of the former MVP moving forward.

That expectation by the Vikings is that Peterson stay as far away from the team as possible — likely forever.

According to Chris Mortensen from ESPN.com, the Vikings don’t have Peterson in any of their future plans — whether that means the immediate future or long term is left ambiguous.

"The Vikings do not foresee Peterson in their future, according to team sources, following a botched attempt to activate the running back this past Monday only to reverse course Wednesday by placing him on the commissioner’s exempt list."

It’s hard to tell where the Vikings stand on Peterson. They deactivated him the Sunday following the revelation of the child abuse charges against him but tried to activate him a day later. After much public outcry, the Vikings kindly paid Peterson to stay away from the team, placing him on the exempt list — which is a nice way of saying he’s suspended with pay.

Peterson will play in the NFL again, but it won’t be in 2014 and it won’t be for the Vikings. That’s something he doesn’t seem to get but Minnesota is very keen on what they’re planning on doing with the biggest distraction the franchise has ever faced.
