Celtics’ owner calls Rajon Rondo stubborn, isn’t sure ‘how coachable’ he is
Boston Celtics’ point guard Rajon Rondo reportedly has asked for a trade. Although his camp has denied that report, many think both Rondo and the Celtics may be better off parting ways.

When asked about Rondo, Celtics’ owner Wyc Grousbeck didn’t exactly heap praise on his point guard. In fact, he called Rondo a “stubborn” player.
“He’s super stubborn,” revealed Grousbeck, adding Rondo is a good, generous kid who loves being in Boston via Adam Kaufman of The Boston Globe. “I don’t know how coachable he really is.
“I know if you ask [former, long-time head coach] Doc [Rivers], ‘Was he the most coachable guy, or in the top half, 50 percent,’ he’d say, ‘No, he’s in the bottom 50 percent of being coachable.’ It’s hard with him,” Grousbeck continued.
Although Grousbeck said he “didn’t like change” when asked about Rondo, comments like that only add fuel to the fire.
Last season, Rondo averaged 11.7 points, 9.8 assists, 5.5 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game while shooting 40.3% from the field, 28.9% from beyond the arc and 62.7% from the free throw line. Rondo was originally selected by the Celtics with the 21st-overall pick in the 2006 NBA Draft. In his eight-year career, he has averaged 11.1 points, 8.4 assists, 4.6 rebounds and 1.9 steals per game while shooting 47.5% from the floor, 25.2% from three and 62.1% from the free throw line.
