Andrew Wiggins thought he would begin his career with LeBron James, Kyrie Irving and the Cleveland Cavaliers. Instead, the Cavaliers dealt Wiggins and Bennett to the Minnesota Timberwolves for star power forward Kevin Love.

According to Alex Kennedy of Basketball Insiders, Wiggins believes he is better off in Minnesota.

"“I think it’s a great situation whenever I think about it,” Wiggins told reporters, according to KSTP. “It gives me more freedom. I’m surrounded by young guys that have the same intentions and determinations as me – to really win and get better every day.”Privately, Wiggins has told people in his inner circle the same thing. In fact, Wiggins told his college head coach Bill Self that he was hoping for a trade to Minnesota when the rumors started surfacing.“When all this trade stuff started, I talked to Andrew and Andrew told me, ‘I hope I get traded,’ Self told The Associated Press last month. “And I’m like, ‘No you don’t.’ And he said, ‘Coach, I do. It’s better for me, knowing my personality and what I need to do, to go somewhere where I’m forced to be something as opposed to going in there where they’re going to be patient with me and I’m going to be a piece.’”"

With other young talent like Bennett, Thaddeus Young and point guard Ricky Rubio, Wiggins has chance to grow alongside other young players and really become “the man” with the Timberwolves.

Wiggins averaged 17.1 points, 5.9 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.2 steals and 1.0 blocks per game while shooting 44.8% from the field, 34.1% from beyond the arc and 77.5% from the free throw line for the Jayhawks last season.
