Jones was injured in the team’s win over the Carolina Panthers on Sunday night that also saw Ike Taylor break his arm and first round pick and starting linebacker Ryan Shazier sprain his MCL that will keep him out a few weeks.
After getting off to a slow start in his NFL career with the Steelers, Jones had two sacks in the first three games to double his total as a rookie after the Steelers spent their first round pick on the former Georgia Bulldogs pass-rusher who was the SEC Defensive Player of the Year in 2012 and an All-American in 2011 and 2012.
With Jones out of the lineup, Arthus Moats will assume the starting position at the right outside linebacker position in Dick Lebeau’s defense opposite Jason Worilds.
The Steelers are only allowed one player to tag with the designated to return option so the future of Taylor could be one that sees him headed for season-ending injured reserve with Jones getting the option to return in two months.
