Maryland Terrapins vs Ohio State Buckeyes

The Maryland Terrapins look for their biggest win in Big Ten play after beginning their first season in the conference with a win over the Indiana Hoosiers last week to improve to 4-1 overall and take on the 3-1 Ohio State Buckeyes with J.T. Barrett settling in nicely in place of the injured Braxton Miller.

Keys to Victory

Barrett has grown up fast after a dismal performance in the loss vs the Virginia Tech Hokies and is coming off a season-high 330 yards with four touchdowns on 26-of-36 passing in the Buckeyes’ 50-28 win over the Cincinnati Bearcats. He showed off his dual-threat ability with a season-high 79 yards on 14 carries and is the team’s second leading rusher. Ohio State will go as far as he takes them.

Maryland has to play smart and disciplined football and win the turnover battle and the field position game against a team with more talent, so they need to get out to a hot start and get the home crowd into the action. Maryland has a game-time decision looming about their starting quarterback after C.J. Brown left with a wrist injury last week. They’ll need him to pull off the upset.

Betting Odds

Point spread:  OSU -8.5
Moneyline:  -330
Over/Under: 58

Prediction

If Brown was fully healthy and was assured of starting, I believe the Terps would have given the Buckeyes a fight and would have been capable of pulling off the home upset. However, with Brown a game-time decision, I am taking the Buckeyes to win convincingly on the road with Barrett showing marked improvement and confidence over the last two games.

Brown is also the team’s leading rusher and that’s just too much to overcome against a team as talented as Ohio State.

Final Score: Terrapins: 24, Buckeyes: 38
