Ray Rice could be reinstated into the NFL within the year and return to the playing field in 2014. The only question is, who would sign such a toxic player?

When Ray Rice was suspended for beating his wife earlier this year, there was a knee-jerk reaction that claimed such a man will never play in the NFL ever again. While he may not deserve the praise and applause that NFL players get, there’s an increasing chance Rice will return to the gridiron in 2014.

A report on Sunday indicated that Ray Rice very well could return to the NFL this season should his appeal be won and reinstatement be enforced. That’s a ways away from happening but if he’s allowed to return to the NFL and enter free agency, who would sign him?

As opined by Jason La Canfora from CBSSports.com, there could be two teams at the top of the list that may have interest in signing Rice should he be reinstated.

"If he is, would a team like the Colts, coached by former Ravens assistant Chuck Pagano who thinks highly of Rice, or New England, where Bill Belichick has very strong ties to Rice’s college coach, Greg Schiano, take a chance on Rice if they need a running back down the stretch? We just might find out."

There is a long list of teams where Rice is a ‘fit’, but that may be football fans thinking too much about football and not enough about life. Ray Rice knocked his wife out in an elevator, something that caused national outcry and is casting a dark cloud over the NFL.

To have Rice then just return to the NFL and start redeeming himself, less than a year after all of this went down, would seem so massively counter-intuitive that people’s head might actually explode. Still, players like Michael Vick and Ray Rice redeemed their careers and it’s not like the NFL hasn’t allowed countless domestic abuser back into the league before, so perhaps there is indeed more hope for ray Rice than there is for humanity at this point.
