Ravens GM: Ray Rice Told Roger Goodell He Hit Wife In June
By Sam Richmond
Baltimore Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome testified that Ray Rice disclosed that he hit his now-wife to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell in June.
Baltimore Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome is the latest to seemingly poke a hole in the NFL’s apparent cover-up in how it handled Ray Rice’s domestic violence situation.

Newsome testified on Thursday that Rice told NFL commissioner Roger Goodell in June that he struck his now-wife during a February altercation, according to ESPN’s Outside The Lines.
"Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome testified under oath Thursday in the Ray Rice appeal hearing that he heard the former Baltimore running back tell NFL commissioner Roger Goodell during his June 16 disciplinary hearing that he had hit his then-fiancee in a casino hotel elevator, two sources told “Outside the Lines.”"
Newsome is far from the first to make this assertion.
"“Outside the Lines” quoted four sources in September who said that Rice had told Goodell he struck Janay — a claim Goodell has denied, saying that Rice’s account to him in the June 16 meeting was “ambiguous.” Goodell spent more than two hours testifying Wednesday.Details of what Rice and his wife testified to Thursday and what Goodell said Wednesday were not released to “Outside the Lines” due to a gag order imposed by Jones. But sources said Newsome backed Rice’s prior accounts of what he told Goodell. Goodell spent the majority of his time testifying under cross-examination by outside union attorney Jeffrey Kessler, sources said."
This is a terrible look for the NFL and it’s appearing more and more as if Goodell hasn’t been truthful about his knowledge of Rice’s behavior.
The NFL suspended Rice indefinitely in September after video that showed Rice punching his now-wife became public. A hearing in which Rice appealed the NFL’s decision ended Thursday.
Rice spent the first six years of his career with the Baltimore Ravens. The team released him after the damning video became public.
