Did Jozy Altidore Rip LA Galaxy’s Interest On Social Media?

The LA Galaxy may or may not be interested in bringing in U.S. national team striker Jozy Altidore. Altidore appears to not share that interest.

U.S. national team striker Jozy Altidore sent the LA Galaxy a cryptic message on social media Saturday, opening up all sorts of speculation that the MLS club is chasing Altidore.

Of course, if the Galaxy is interested in arranging a transfer for Altidore from his current club, Sunderland of the English Premier League, in the January window, they may have some work to do to sell the 25-year-old American on the idea.

The tweet sent by Altidore to the Galaxy has since been deleted, but Pro Soccer Talk picked up a screen shot of it before it disappeared.

"@LAGalaxy really? Stop blowing up my agents phone then. No means no."

Would a player really take to social media to tell a team he’s not interested in joining them? At first glance, it seems like a silly way to send a message—particularly when so many players across all sports express their unhappiness with negotiations taken public.

But it is the social media age, so it’s not insane to think Altidore was, in fact, sending a message to a suitor he wishes to spurn.

Altidore began his career in MLS, playing from 2006-08 with the New York Red Bulls, scoring 15 goals in 37 games.

He has 25 goals in 75 caps for the U.S. national side, but has found the onion bag just once in 36 games with Sunderland after joining them in 2013.

He has only played in three EPL matches for Sunderland this season and dressed out once in League Cup action.
