U.S. Women’s National Team Member Alex Morgan could be heading into her very last World Cup in Australia/New Zealand.

The world is watching in awe as the 2023 Women’s World Cup has begun down under in Australia and New Zealand. Thirty-two nations will be battling it out to take home the Women’s World Cup this summer. The World Cup only comes around every four years, and for the past three World Cups, Alex Morgan has been at the forefront for the United States. She made her World Cup debut back in 2011 when she was named to the roster as the youngest player that year. In addition to her now four World Cup appearances, she has been a part of three Olympic teams as well.

Morgan may be one of the most popular American soccer stars right now. She has won golden boots, silver boots, and even an ESPY for Best Female Athlete back in 2019. With so much success and skill, fans will be sad to see her hang up her cleats for good. So the question remains, Will this be the last World Cup for Morgan?

Will this USWNT World Cup appearance be the last for Alex Morgan?

The answer to the question of whether or not this will be Morgan’s last time on the pitch in a Women’s World Cup for Team USA is, probably not. She has not come out and said that this will be her last but many things have changed for her since she first joined the World Cup roster. One thing, she has become a mother. She gave birth to her daughter back in 2020. Having a baby has not held her back at all and was back in action at the Olympic Games just a year later.

With Morgan’s longtime teammate Megan Rapinoe announcing her upcoming retirement, it could mean that Morgan is next, but she has stated recently that she has no intentions of walking away at this time. Morgan and her teammates are on a mission to send their friend Rapinoe out on top and bring home a fifth straight World Cup title.

Morgan was named as a captain this year. She is leading her team in the group play stage of the Women’s World Cup. They have played one game already, defeating Vietnam 3-0. They will take on the Netherlands next on Wednesday, July 26.
