The World Cup is the best and most entertaining soccer tournament in the world. Countries from all over square off in the tournament for a chance to hold the top prize.

The second biggest international tournament has to be the Euros, when all of Europe competes. They’re going through the qualifying stage of that tournament right now but it makes people think about the United States and their level of soccer fandom. With the United States being roughly similar in size to Europe, and comprised of 50 states, what if the United States had a tournament pitting all 50 states against one another.

Of course this would never happen for a multitude of reasons. It would break up the training of the United States men’s national team by having them compete against one another. Certain states would be lopsided in talent versus others, of course that is the case in UEFA tournaments. Plus, the USMNT play in CONCACAF, which is basically our continent’s equivalent of UEFA.

Still it is fun to dream but specifically. One designer took that idea to the next level, designing soccer uniforms for each state, both home and away. The uniforms are so beautiful that you almost wish it were possible.

Now there are a home and away kit for each state, so we’ll just focus on our favorites.

Take Alaska’s kit for example. It focuses on the mountains and the stars from the flag.

California’s home kit is in a blue and gold pattern with the bear and star from the state flag. Makes you wonder why he didn’t go with the flag color schemes instead.

Like the away kit:

Of course Under Armour would get the Maryland kits, and the two versions would represent the two patterns on the flag. Knowing Under Armour they’d probably try to combine both these kits into one though.

New Mexico’s are stunning and one of the best:

The Nevada away kit is interesting, with the checker board pattern referencing the state’s fast pace.

Rhode Island’s is simple but I love the anchor logo.

Tennesee’s might be the best featuring a checkerboard pattern similar to what you’d see in the Volunteer’s end zone. It almost looks like Croatia’s national team’s jersey, but with different colors.

As a Texan I was excited for those jerseys but I was somewhat disappointed. I do like the solid big star, but it could have been just as appealing with a cannon like on the “Come And Take” it flag.

Which were your favorites?
