Johnny Manziel has been one of the most talked about players in the NFL this season, and he looked extremely disappointing in his first two career starts. There is a lot of concern moving forward for the Cleveland Browns, especially after the alleged party that caused he and Josh Gordon to miss the Browns’ practice this past weekend.
ESPN’s Skip Bayless had some harsh words for Manziel in regards to his latest off-the-field antics, and they were a bit harsher than most thought was necessary.
During the show, he called Manziel an “alcoholic liar that needs help” after the incident, which isn’t quite the issue here. Manziel might need to tone down the drinking while he’s in the thick of the season, and especially two days before the game. An NFL quarterback has to lead by example, as well his play, and that is something that Manziel is going to have to learn soon.
Did Bayless go a bit too far with his criticism of Manziel? Probably. Does he touch on some good points about Manziel needing to mature quickly in order to become a starting NFL quarterback? Absolutely.
The fact of the matter in this situation is that a party Manziel allegedly threw may have gotten another teammate in trouble and suspended. That type of thing is unacceptable for a starting quarterback, and especially for a guy that is supposed to be the face of the franchise in the future.
Cleveland is already concerned with his off-the-field issues, and they could consider bringing in another option at quarterback just in case.
Bayless said some harsh things, but hopefully Manziel takes some of it to heart. It’s time for him to grow up and realize that he needs to man up in order to make things happen at an NFL level.
