Andrew Luck uses ‘Dora the Explorer’ and ‘Lord of the Rings’ references as dummy calls.

As if we didn’t think Andrew Luck was a weird guy as it is.

Now we learn that the Indianapolis Colts quarterback has some very…um…unique dummy calls at the line of scrimmage. To be honest, they’re pretty hysterical.

Colts and Pro-Bowl punter Pat McAfee recently joined the Dan Patrick Show to talk about his teams AFC Championship game this weekend against the New England Patriots. As you would expect, they got on the topic of McAfee’s quarterback, Andrew Luck. Dan Patrick mentions that Luck has a great voice, that he’s always so loud and clear at the line of scrimmage. McAfee then reveals to us that Luck has some very hysterical dummy calls at the line.

“Really good cadence,” said McAfee when asked about Luck’s vocal chords. “I think he’s made a Lord of the Rings reference, too. You’ve got to check his dummy calls. They are hysterical.”

More from Indianapolis Colts

Just imagine what the Lord of the Rings one could be. I could definitely picture Luck yelling ‘Sauron!’ at the line of scrimmage. He’s already got a beard like Gandalf.

Most quarterbacks in the NFL are so serious that would never even think to work in these kinds of references in their calls. Most of the time, quarterbacks will just throw out random football lingo as dummy calls that don’t mean anything. Andrew Luck is not most quarterbacks.

“We had a training camp this offseason and he gave a ‘Dora the Explorer,’” said McAfee. “It was amazing. It was one of the funniest things ever because it’s such a serious game. It’s such a serious position and to get that in there it’s a good little type of comedy relief.”

I just want to know how his center keeps a straight face at the line of scrimmage when all of sudden you hear your quarterback yell ‘Dora the Explorer.’ If that was me, I would be laughing so hard I’d forget to snap the ball. Maybe Luck lets his offense know beforehand what exactly his dummy calls are going to be, or perhaps his teammates are so used to him by now they aren’t even surprised anymore.

We all knew that Andrew Luck was a unique talent at quarterback coming into the NFL, but now we know that he is a very unique individual as well. He’s able to play the game at such a high level, yet remain so calm that he’s making ‘Dora the Explorer’ references before the snap and congratulating opponents after he gets hit.

We’ll have to see how his calm, light-hearted demeanor help him this weekend as he faces Tom Brady and the New England Patriots with a spot at the Super Bowl on the line.
