The Philadelphia 76ers have acquired big man JaVale McGee from the Denver Nuggets for a first-round pick.

With the NBA trade deadline about to pass, teams around the league are scrambling to make moves that either add players to their contending roster or dumps fuel overboard as the ship continues to sink. The Denver Nuggets very much fall into the latter category, and it’s looking like they will continue to auction off players to the highest bidder in the 11th hour of the deadline.

After sending Arron Afflalo to the Portland Trail Blazers for three players and two draft picks, the Nuggets have again made a deal that lands them a first-round pick. According to Adrian Wojnarowksi from Yahoo! Sports, the Nuggets are sending JaVale McGee to the Philadelphia 76ers in exchange for a protected first-round pick.

Before you go out and buy your new McGee 76ers jersey, you may want to pump the brakes a little. There isn’t no guarantee that the 76ers will be keeping McGee, as he’s a prime buyout candidate that Philly could use to get more cap space this summer.

That’s why the trade likely happened, but there’s also a chance that the once promising McGee is given a chance to try and work things out in Philly. Then again, saving money and coming in way under the tax has always been what the Sixers have been about and their tank job continues with this trade.

Then again, the Nuggets are in a far worse position than they are, and they’ve acquired two first-round picks in the span of an hour. Neither team is contending this season and this deal has all the makings of two teams trying to save face on assets the don’t want from a lost season they want to forget.
