Red-shirt sophomore Malik Zaire issued a tweet on Thursday hinting at the man’s confidence to win over the starting quarterback spot for Notre Dame.

The Notre Dame football team heads into the 2015 NCAA football season with some questions to answer. Among the biggest for the storied program is the issue of who will start under center for the Fighting Irish.

The choice ultimately boils down to two-year starter Everett Golson, who as recently as 2012 led his school to the BCS National Championship game, or red-shirt sophomore Malik Zaire, the 2014 Music City Bowl MVP.

Regardless of which way head coach Brian Kelly is leaning, let it be known, according to the following tweets posted below, that Zaire is confident in his abilities to win over the role.

Zaire, originally a four star recruit out of Archbishop Alter High School in Kettering, Ohio, saw very little playing time in 2014, his first year of eligibility after being given red-shirt designation as a freshman. He had a chance to shine though in the 2014 Music City Bowl against LSU.

He made the most of his time, completing 12 of 15 passes for 96 yards and one touchdown, while also rushing for 96 yards on 22 carries and adding a TD on the ground as well. For his efforts in the Irish’s 31-28 victory, Zaire was named the game’s most valuable player.

Golson, the team’s incumbent quarterback, had another efficient season for his school in 2014. The red-shirt junior threw for 2,757 yards, 24 touchdowns, 11 interceptions, and completed just under 63 percent of his passes, while adding an additional seven rushing scores.

A compelling case can be made for either guy, however, if the above tweets are any indication, we know who Malik Zaire believes will be the starter. Nobody can fault the kid for being confident either. He outplayed his competition in the final game of the season, thus at the moment, one would assume he has the slight edge.

Regardless of whom gets the nod, the battle between the two should provide for another exciting story-line heading into the upcoming college football season.
