While doing his press conference duties leading up to the game, the Manchester United captain was asked about that infamous knockout video and the celebration that followed it.
For those of you that don’t know, a video emerged two weeks ago of Rooney and some pals fooling around in a living room, one thing lead to another and it appeared that Rooney got knocked out from a lovely punch. After the media released the video the England striker got a lot of attention over the incident and responded by doing a spoof of the celebration after scoring against Tottenham.
When the subject came up in the interview England’s captain told reporters that he wasn’t actually knocked out, apparently the video was misleading.
"“Obviously I was caught on the wrong end of a punch, but I wasn’t knocked out like it was reported. Unfortunately the video stopped there…”"
It doesn’t appear that we will see the hilarious celebration again however, as has apparently been imitating it in school.
"“It’s funny, my wife went to pick up my lad from school and saw him doing that (celebration) in the classroom. I’m sure you won’t be seeing that again.”"
Rooney’s son Kai is now 5 years old, and he had to go and ruin the fun for all of us. All jokes aside that is the age that you start copying footballers at school, and it’s pretty cool that he get’s to imitate his dad for all his friends.
Rooney is only three goals away from equaling the all time goal scoring record for England, it’s not unthinkable that he could do it in their qualifier today considering their opposition aren’t top drawer. One thing is for certain however, if he does score we won’t be seeing the boxing celebration.
