During a routine pit stop, Brendan Gaughan’s No. 62 car appeared to catch fire on the back tire with the aid of the gas can and the entire back end of the car immediately went up in flames.

Unfortunately, several members of his pit crew were working on the car, including one who was fueling gasoline into the car.

As the car went up in flames, it appeared that two of the crew members was indeed engulfed in flames. It wasn’t exactly clear which member of the pit crew caught fire, although from the video, the safe bet is it was the guy holding gasoline and the other member changing the back tire.

Both were immediately sprayed down and taken to the medical center for immediate attention.

The problem didn’t stop there, as the pit was still on fire and the No. 62 crew had to rush to clear up the flames and get everything cleaned up.

It appears that everyone was okay after the incident but it certainly was one that could have been much worse.

Considering both members sent to the medical center were holding a gas or in the vicinity of the gas can with gallons of fuel as they caught fire, the hope is that both will be okay and be able to return to their job soon. The suits that the drivers and pit crew wear are fireproof and are designed to keep everyone safe.

However, when the flames are that bad, all bets are off. It’s something you hate to see on the track.

The No. 62 team was able to get another pit crew member from another team to come help out for the remainder of the race.
