Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Marcell Dareus will serve a one game suspension following a violation of the NFL’s drug abuse policy.

The NFL has been cracking down on players violating the code of conduct lately, and the most recent violator is Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Marcell Dareus, who will serve a one game suspension for not following the drug policy. The charges date all the way back to last year when Dareus was caught with a synthetic marijuana. It’s of no surprise that the NFL are now suspending him one game for the 2015-16 season. It will be against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 1 of the regular season.

“Last year, I made a mistake involving possession of a banned substance,” Dareus said after hearing of the suspension. “The NFL’s discipline for this conduct is part of the drug policy, and I apologize to my family, my teammates, the entire Bills organization and Bills fans that I will miss one game as a result of my mistake. I will work intensely that week and will be extremely happy to contribute ot a win in week two for the Bills.”

This is one of the many suspensions that an NFL player will have to serve in the up coming year due to drug related incidents. The most notable one comes from the Cleveland Browns organization after Josh Gordon violated his agreement with the NFL.

After a marijuana related incident at the beginning of his career and a DWI in July of 2014, Gordon was caught drinking alcohol on a plane to Las Vegas with some of his teammates earlier this off season. In response, the NFL issued a year long suspension without pay making the 23 year old inelligble to compete until 2016-17.

Marcell Dareus, while his suspension is not quite as severe because he is not a repeat offender, will be watching Week 1 with Josh Gordon instead of playing in it. It seems from his apology statement and his track record, we should see him back on the field with the re-tooled Bills in no time.
