Eli Manning did not look like he was in mid-season form (Or did he?) when he threw this pass against the New York Jets.

One of tonight’s NFL preseason games featured the battle of MetLife Stadium between the New York Jets and New York Giants. These two teams play an annual game during Week 3 of the preseason.

During the third week of the preseason, the starters usually get a long look. This is for their final tune up before Week 1, which is in about two weeks.

Well, Eli Manning’s performance tonight before the regular season did not end so well. He capped off his evening by attempting a pass to WR James Jones but got picked off by Jets DB Antonio Cromartie. He took it to the end zone for a touchdown to make the game 21-7, Jets.

Unfortunately for Giant fans, this is a play that they’re all too familiar with. Manning led the league in interceptions in 2013 (27), 2010 (25) and 2007 (20). Even despite having two Super Bowl rings, this has been a problem for Manning that has been hard to overlook.

Throwing passes like this also won’t help Manning in his bid for a new contract. Rumors spread last week that he wanted to become the NFL’s highest-paid player. However, according to the Sports World Report, Manning denied this. He’s right to do so, as wanting to be the NFL’s highest paid player may be a stretch for the veteran QB.

If the Giants don’t want to lose their QB, though, they could make this happen. That means the bar would be set even higher for future QB contracts, which seem to escalate by the year.

Could Manning get a big contract? Possibly. First, he can’t throw easy interceptions like he did tonight.
