Dallas Cowboys acquire Matt Cassel from Buffalo Bills
By Josh Hill
The Dallas Cowboys have found their replacement for Tony Romo after trading for Matt Cassel.
UPDATE:
It appears that the Cowboys and Bills have swapped late round picks in the Matt Cassel trade.
Tony Romo will be gone for the next few weeks — eight to ten, if we’re being technical — and that leave the Dallas Cowboys in a position where they need to replace him. The Brandon Weeden era is off to a great start but there’s no safety net at all underneath him and the Cowboys have a 2-0 record that they need to protect.
Dallas brought in Christian Ponder and Matt Flynn for a workout this week, but that right there tells you how gross a situation Jerry Jones is dealing with. That’s likely what prompted the move to trade for Matt Cassel ahead of this week’s game.
According to basically everyone, the Bills have traded Matt Cassel to the Cowboys to replace Tony Romo.
The question here is how long will it take before the Cowboys try to force Cassel into a position where he has to start? The Weeden era is proving that life indeed starts at 30, but how much longevity there is beyond that is yet to be known. Cassel is no spring chicken by ay means, but having two veteran quarterbacks is something that will at least alleviate the pressure of having to live without Romo for the next month or so — in theory, mostly.
