Brett Favre retired with all the notable passing records in NFL history, and his most notable achievement is a consecutive starts streak that will simply never be matched. He’s taking his rightful place in Canton, Ohio at the Pro Football Hall of Fame this weekend, in his first year of eligibility.
Favre’s split from the Green Bay Packers in 2008, after a tearful retirement press conference and his annual change of heart about wanting to play, was not particularly happy. After a remarkably odd season with the New York Jets in 2008, Favre spent the final two seasons of his career with the Minnesota Vikings.
Favre apparently had no direct hand in determining the contents of his mock Hall of Fame locker, which will be on display through the weekend’s events. But ESPN.com Packers’ reporter Rob Demovsky is among those that have provided a visual.
Packers’ fans will obviously not like that Favre will have his No. 4 Vikings’ jersey on display at the Hall of Fame, on essentially equal ground as his Packers’ jersey.
One of the cool pieces in Favre’s Hall of Fame locker is the inactive list from the Vikings’ December 28, 2010 game against the Philadelphia Eagles. That is the game that ended his epic streak of 321 consecutive starts (including playoffs), on a Tuesday night as a residual effect of a massive snowstorm that caused the Metrodome’s roof to collapse. The Hall of Fame has said it’s the only inactive sheet among the 30 million artifacts in their collection.
