5 reasons Tony Romo should sign with the Denver Broncos
Tony Romo is finally going to be available, and here are five reasons he should sign with the Denver Broncos.
After a few months of rumors, Tony Romo will finally be looking for a new team on Thursday, when the new NFL league year starts. Both Adam Schefter of ESPN and Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports have reported the Dallas Cowboys will release the veteran quarterback, though La Canfora’s report left open the remote possibility of a “strong trade offer.”
The two teams most tied to Romo are the Denver Broncos and the Houston Texans. Both have strong defenses and a need for an upgrade at quarterback, which a healthy Romo theoretically is. The emergence of a dark horse team is always possible, but another possible suitor in the Kansas City Chiefs has publicly remained committed to Alex Smith and reportedly are not interested in Romo.
Back in November, the Broncos were rumored to be Romo’s preferred landing spot in a potential offseason trade. That interest may be mutual, and with Romo about to become available, Denver will surely be in the mix.
There’s a strong case to be made for the Texans, but here are five reasons Romo should sign with the Broncos.
5. How ’bout them Cowboys?!
In a scheduling coincidence, based on the cycle the NFL goes through across conferences, the NFC East will play the AFC West next season. That means the Broncos will play the Cowboys, and though we don’t know the exact date, we do know the game will be in Denver.
All indications are Romo and the Cowboys will have an amicable split. But that doesn’t mean the chance to play his former team won’t carry some weight, and that makes the Broncos the obvious choice over the Texans.
