NFL Free Agency 2017: Jaguars closing in on A.J. Bouye

The Jacksonville Jaguars may pulled in the biggest free agent in 2017

The Jaguars front has been some what quiet this early off-season, which is rare for them. This is the team that almost always is one of the winners of the off-season. With more holes on the roster after 2016, they were sure to be buyers again. That is why it is no surprise to see that Jaguars are the likely candidates to land A.J. Bouye.

The Jaguars would be poaching Bouye and his talents from the Houston Texans. The Texans, of course are a division rival, and will go from having the talented corner on their team to facing him twice per year in Jacksonville. The Jaguars, obviously also got their first hand look at Bouye last season as he broke out.

The interesting case about Bouye is that he has hardly had playing time to prove the big deal he is set to get. A.J. Bouye is a player who was undrafted coming out of UCF in 2013. As a rookie, he appeared in just six games and did not start. 2014 and 2015 featured eight combined starts before his breakout season. Bouye’s 2016 season was fantastic, and while he proved he could step up for the injury to Kevin Johnson, he still only started 11 games in his breakout year.

The Jaguars did get to see him up close and person during his development stage, but at the same team a decent portion of the Jags regime is new. Time will tell if the gamble the Jaguars are taking will pay off, but nobody can say they are surprised it is the Jaguars making the gamble.
