The Oakland Raiders began another phase of offseason work on Monday, and Marshawn Lynch was there.

Marshawn Lynch clearly marches to the beat of his own drum, from a known aversion to talking to the media during Super Bowl week (“I’m just here so I don’t get fined”) to first announcing his retirement with a picture of hung up cleats on Twitter. During the Super Bowl.

Lynch’s rumored return to the NFL, and eventual landing with his hometown Oakland Raiders, lingered undone just long enough to make it possible he reversed course and stayed retired. But a deal got done last week, and Lynch was officially a Raider.

Participating on mostly useless team-organized offseason work was another known allergy for Lynch during his time with the Seattle Seahawks. But after a year out of football, it appears he is highly motivated.

The Raiders began “Phase 2” of their offseason program on Monday, and there was a “Beast Mode” sighting.

It’s a fairly long clip via the Raiders’ website and Twitter feed that doesn’t strictly focus on Lynch. But that is unmistakably him, wearing his trademark No. 24 on the field and going through a couple drills.

As people involved with the Seahawks see the above video, they are probably looking at their calendars to make sure it’s only May and Lynch is in a uniform. When is the last time Lynch worked with his teammates at this point in the offseason? Frankly, it’s hard to remember.

If Lynch is properly motivated and fully healthy after a year off, the Raiders are getting a potential difference maker. As their expectations rise this year, Lynch should have no trouble raising his level.
