With the 2017 NFL Draft in the rear-view mirror, we take an early look at what the first round of the 2018 draft might look like.

This past weekend, a new crop of NFL players were selected to the league, and some hold the future of their respective organization in the palm of their hand. As we turn our attention to next year’s draft, there is an abundance of talent at the quarterback position. In a very early 2018 NFL Mock Draft, we take a look at what the first round just may look like next April.

The draft order is based on our projected standings for the 2017 NFL season after the schedules were released earlier this month. Take a look at our first installment of the 2018 NFL Mock Draft.

Sam Darnold

QB, USC

The New York Jets did the right thing for once on draft night, forgoing the opportunity to trade up for a quarterback. New York had drafted a quarterback in the previous two drafts, including spending a second round pick on Penn State’s Christian Hackenberg the year before. By passing up on guys like Mitchell Trubisky, Deshaun Watson, and Patrick Mahomes II, the Jets put themselves in position to solidify the position during the 2018 NFL Draft.

That pick should be Sam Darnold of USC, who projects as the best quarterback prospect we have seen in the past two years. Last season, Darnold emerged as the starter for the Trojans four games into the season, and completely turned USC’s year around. By the time the season ended, the Trojans were beating those same Nittany Lions in the Rose Bowl, and the legend of Darnold for the Trojans was officially born.

Based on their current roster, it looks like the Jets will be picking very high in next year’s draft, and No. 1 is not out of the question. They did a good job picking up solid pieces for their defense this past weekend, especially with star safety Jamal Adams falling to them at No. 6. It is going to be a long year for the Jets, and for head coach Todd Bowles, he may not be around to make this pick next April.
