The San Francisco Giants are in a massive slump, so they’re probably not all that irritated that today’s game against the Cincinnati Reds was canceled. Facing a four game sweep in the face, the skies opened up which led to flooding in both dugouts and the game had to be called as both teams needed to travel for their scheduled games tomorrow.

Normally, the cancellation wouldn’t be a big deal but the Giants aren’t coming back to Cincinnati again this season and the two sides don’t have a mutual off day until August 29th. The Giants, will have just finished a three game series in Colorado at that point and the Reds will be coming into Colorado the next day. So, what’s the logical answer? Have the Giants and Reds play their makeup game in Colorado, of course.

San Francisco Giants beat writer Andrew Baggarly hinted the suggestion to Reds GM Walt Jockety:

"Told Reds GM Walt Jocketty my idea to play makeup at Coors on Aug. 29. “That’s a good idea,” he said, not sounding patronizing in the least."

The plan was confirmed to be in discussion by Giants manger Bruce Bochy. The only other available time, at least from a schedule standpoint would be after the final game of the year – that’s assuming the Reds or Giants aren’t in the Wild Card scenario.

Messy, eh?
