San Francisco Giants fan threw a banana at Baltimore Orioles Adam Jones

If you’re a Major League outfielder, you better have thick skin. While corner infielders are relatively close to the stands, they’re still far enough away to avoid the constant harassment of drunken attacks. The same can’t be said for outfielders who are prime targets for verbal barbs given their proximity to the bleachers.

Many players enjoy engaging in the trash talk, which is apparently what Baltimore Orioles outfielder Adam Jones decided to do with fans in the Bay Area this weekend as he and his Orioles took on the World Champion San Francisco Giants. What Jones didn’t expect though was some moron launching a banana his way.

Per ESPN:

"Orioles outfielder Adam Jones had plenty to be pleased about after Baltimore’s 10-2 road victory over the Giants, but a possible racially motivated incident forced the All-Star to take to Twitter to voice his displeasure.“I want to thank whatever slapd— threw that banana towards my direction in CF in the last inning. Way to show ur class u jacka–,” Jones tweeted to his more than 129,000 followers."

I’m not exactly sure it was a ‘racist attack’ as it was more likely an idiot who brought a banana to the game, but still, there’s zero place for that type of activity.

The Giants apologized to Jones earlier today for the incident:

"“The Giants have a zero tolerance policy against this type of behavior, which results in immediate ejection from the ballpark,” the statement said. “While we have been investigating the matter since we learned of the situation, unfortunately we have been unable to identify the person responsible.”"
